Family Medicine and Primary Care
Functional Family Medicine Explained
What is primary care?
Primary care is basic health care that meets most of your medical needs. Your primary care provider is someone you go to for all medical problems, excluding emergencies. Every primary care provider is different, but most provide a broad range of general medical care, including physicals and treatment of sudden illnesses and minor injuries. Primary care doesn’t generally encompass advanced specialty care. For example, patients who need help with a congenital heart problem will generally receive a referral to a cardiologist.
At Tulsi Wellness Club, the team is shifting the primary care paradigm. They use evidence-based functional medicine and naturopathic avenues to help you prevent disease, heal from within, and attain the best wellness possible — all without harmful drugs or risky procedures.
Can a naturopathic doctor provide primary care in California?
Naturopathic doctors are primary care providers trained as primary care doctors during 4-year doctoral-level medical programs. NDs can perform physicals of all types, including gynecological exams and men’s health exams. They’re also licensed to diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions, diseases, and issues, such as:
- Diabetes
- Crohn’s disease
- Other autoimmune diseases
- Menopause
- Acne and other skin concerns
- Hormone imbalance, such as low testosterone
- Depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders
Naturopathic doctors can also provide adjunctive treatment for cancer in collaboration with your medical doctor or physician. Make sure to inform both doctors for appropriate integrated care.
When should I see my primary care doctor?
Tulsi Wellness Club recommends physicals at least annually for all patients. Your physicals are like wellness exams. They generally focus on monitoring your health with functional medicine testing, reviewing your current wellness plan, and learning how to improve your health.
You should also visit your primary care providers at Tulsi Wellness Club if you develop new symptoms, need help with weight loss, want to enhance your appearance or experience a new illness or injury. Tulsi Wellness Club is a central hub for health and wellness care.
The team can work alongside your medical doctor or physician where needed to provide complete care. The practice’s wellness club gives you access to expanded primary care, including naturopathic doctor and health coach visits, testing, and a 20% discount on supplements and services.
